Leadership is a major priority of Youth First Texas. We find it extremely important that youth become strong leaders throughout the community, but first and foremost within themselves. We have three main programs that encourage developing leadership abilities:

Leadership Corps
Youth interested in taking part in YFT’s Youth Board, or just interested in developing leadership skills to help them in other areas of their lives are encouraged to take part in the Leadership Corps. In two Saturday sessions, participants learn about leadership styles, effective communication and solidify their purpose in life. Offered twice a year.

Youth Board
Youth who have successfully completed Leadership Corps can serve as members of the Youth Board. Elected for a term of six months, the members work with the Executive Board to develop Big Group/programming, fundraising events and outreach activities to support LGBTQA youth in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area.

yLead Team
The yLead program is an internship program that offers internships to the youth on a quarterly basis. Youth need to apply to be eligible for this. Interns come up with specific areas on how they want to help YFT and present them to the selection committee. Interns then spend the following ten weeks supporting Youth First in various ways, whether it is administrative needs, marketing assistance, or helping through media.
