Recreational Activities
Youth First Texas holds several activities at the center that youth can be involved in, as well as participate in off-site. Our weekly activities include:
Friday Family Dinner
Come socialize and eat with your YFT family! Dinner is cooked by either a volunteer or youth and is served to everyone at the center. Held every Friday evening; dinner is served at approximately 7 PM.
Movie Camp
Campy classics and other staples of the LGBT film catalog are offered, from comedies like The Bird Cage and In & Out to sing-a-longs with The Wizard of Oz and Mamma Mia! This camp is all about the movies that make us smile and laugh and maybe even sing along.
Open Mic Night
Writers of poetry, prose, or performers of any kind are encouraged to come out on the second and fourth Saturdays of the month to share their works with other youth and get helpful feedback. Youth may also submit pieces for the annual “Queer Subtext” anthology, compiled during the summer.
YFT Dance Group
No matter what skill level, all are welcome to take part in the dance group, where a variety of styles are covered Friday nights during the summer. Equal parts fun, workout and education, participants learn basic choreography and impressive dance moves other than what they might find in the clubs.
Dallas PUMP! (Currently on hiatus)
A youth-organized program, PUMP is the youth choir at YFT. Youth will decide on types of music and specific pieces to practice, and will perform at special events held by Youth First. PUMP is a non-discriminatory choir, so no lessons needed! Held Wednesday nights at 7 PM.
Youth are also encouraged and invited to enjoy several cultural events, such as concerts by the Turtle Creek Chorale, theater performances by Uptown Players, and many other community functions.
